Cool brown dwarf science from UKIDSS

The UKIRT Infrared Deep Sky Survey (UKIDSS) is now the largest contribution to the current sample of brown dwarfs, probing new atmospheric parameter space and providing new constraints on the initial mass function in clusters and the field. I will review the survey status and provide an update regarding the future completion of UKIDSS and will discuss the latest results from the Large Area Survey. I will discuss the apparent discrepancy between the UKIDSS field density of sub-1000K dwarfs and the expected population given the initial mass function seen in young clusters and will explore plausible explanations for this unsettling result. I will also discuss the latest results from our WISE/UKIDSS/VISTA searches for cool brown dwarfs.
